Cigar Spotlight

August: AVO Signature Lonsdale

Thanks for checking out Mojito Cigar Lounge’s inaugural “Cigar Spotlight!” The idea is to periodically describe some of our staff favorites and encourage you to give them a try if you haven’t before, or perhaps to revisit them if you have! It’s always fun to take your time analyzing your smoke and comparing cigar-tasting notes with someone! Cheers!

Taster: Jason Cigar: AVO Signature Lonsdale (6¼ x 43) Wrapper: Multiple-Fermented Ecuadorian Sun-Grown Filler: Cibao Valley, Dominican Republic

The cigar sports an attractive, somewhat toothy wrapper with no apparent flaws. It is veiny but not in a way that detracts from the appearance or smoke. There is a soft kid leather aroma to the leaf pre-light.

This is a medium to full bodied smoke showcasing leathery, sandalwood-tinged spice balanced nicely by round soft supporting notes of cocoa and cherry-wood undertones that flesh out the flavor profile and linger pleasantly on the finish. Overall the taste is smooth with a distinctly Dominican expression throughout (common to AVOs), fills out and sweetens as the smoke progresses, and has a surprisingly pleasant room presence.

The cigar burns extremely evenly all the way down, creating a sturdy white/grey ash that fell only after it was over an inch long (impressive for the ring gauge). The draw is not loose nor too tight, delivering the right amount of smoke at a nice temperature. Even with steady attention this relatively thin cigar lasted around an hour.

Overall this is a complex, enjoyable smoke from a great brand. It provides plenty of flavor with nuance to boot and is certainly worth a try!
